Goodbye Korea
Well I bid farewell to Korea tomorrow morning, early. I have enjoyed my drifting around both Seoul and Gyeongju. So what are my impressions of Korea. Even in Seoul it is quiet, yes there is the noise of the traffic, but the people are quiet. Which makes for a much more relaxed environment. Of course I am pretty relaxed at the moment, so I could well just be reflecting my mood onto the city. I will not miss having people riding motor scooters or motorbikes on the footpath. Nor will I miss the humidity (I had to complain about that one more time). I am leaving places that are old, but mostly new, nothing quite like invaders to come and trash your stuff. Seoul is the only big city I have been to that seems very similar all over the city, yes there is the large city center with its tall office buildings, but everything seems so similar around the city. It reduces the joy of wandering around, but that is still fun. Oddities amongst the people: a lot (by my standards) of people wear white gloves; Older women can be seen wearing golf sun visors, see I am not the only one with poor dress sense. There seems to be a high level of trust in others and I have seen very little graffiti, well almost none. The fact that train stations have fire extinguishers and torches readily accessible, to me shows that trust, oh and I have never seen an empty spot for a torch or fire extinguisher.
Went out last night with Sabine for a night of music and drinking. Caught the last train to the Hong Ik Uni for the bars around that area. Finally got back at about 9am. Not too drunk had a great night, dancing, drinking and talking. Meet some Koreans and had a very stilted conversion with them and their little pekingese.
Well annyonghi kyeseyo Korea, konnichiwa Japan.
